Rewriting Dr. Seward's Diary Ch.16

It was 11:45 when we entered going over the very short wall into the graveyard. Moonlight shown down brightly through the dark, heavy night that was upon us, and gave us a path to see our way around the tombstones. All of us stayed near to make sure nobody was left behind. Of course Van Helsing and I knew where we were going more than anybody, so he led the way. I knew this trip was going to bring back the most upsetting memories on Arthur, but he took it well. Van Helsing opened the door with much the effort and we all stepped in. Now, there was no moonlight to lead us, so the Professor lit the lantern. I felt everybody in the room hesitate. Especially since more than half of us loved Lucy, but every one of us knew it was for the best. Arthur’s hands shook fiercely, for he was most afraid of what await him.

Suddenly, Van Helsing approached me, questioning, “Since you are quite trustworthy, and ventured with me here yesterday, you can tell the others what you saw.”

“L-Lucy,” I stammered slowly, but loud enough for all to hear.

The professor continued, “Now everybody can be sure that Ms.Westerna was here the night before.” Unscrewing the lid of the coffin and removing it with my help, everybody was waiting to see our purpose. Arthur stood pale and very unsure of himself in the back of the room. As he stepped forward Van Helsing took his lantern and shown it at Lucy’s coffin. Suspense lingered through all of us, and suddenly we all let out a gasp. All of us, except of course Van Helsing. He seemed almost too sure of himself. It made me question myself on whether Van Helsing set this up to give us a scare. Everyone in the room hadn’t spoken a word for several minutes when all of a sudden Quincey stated his thoughts. They seemed very much alike to mine. He was asking if the Professor had done this.
