The Playstation 3 is the 3rd video game console to be released by Sony, and is definitely the one with the most features. It is the most expensive video game console on the market today, but Sony defends this by reminding consumers of the capabilities and features that the Playstation 3 has that are not made available by other video game consoles.

The Playstation 3 was first released on November 11, 2006 in Japan and November 17, 2006 in North America. The many features of the Playstation 3 include the PlayStation Network, online gaming, the ability to connect with the PlayStation Portable, a Blu-ray player, a built-in Wi-Fi and flash media reader, a 60 GB hard drive, and backwards compatibility with Playstation 1 and 2 games. Sony has sold 16.84 million units as of September 30, 2008, but still trails the worldwide sales of the Wii and the Xbox. When the Playstation 3 was first released, Sony was losing an estimated $250.00 per unit sold due to the high production cost of the console. They have been able to cut down on production costs, and have since been able to bring in a profit from sales.

Sony is still trying to catch the Wii and Xbox in sales, and they have shown some signs of catching their competitors. The lack of sales is probably most attributed to the costs, with the Wii and Xbox costing significantly less. Despite the numbers, Sony still contends that they have the best video game console for your money.
